Login to Matter with Identity Providers (IDPs)

Modified on Thu, 5 Mar at 4:20 PM

This feature allows users to sign in to the platform using their company’s Identity Provider (IDP), such as Azure AD, Okta, or other enterprise authentication systems.

By enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) through SAML, organizations can centralize user authentication, enforce their own security policies, and make access to internal applications simpler and more secure.

⭐ What is Login with Identity Providers?

Login with Identity Providers allows users to authenticate using their organization's existing identity management system instead of creating and remembering a separate password for the platform.

This is typically implemented using SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO).

When SSO is enabled:

  • Users sign in using their corporate credentials.
  • Authentication is handled by the organization's identity provider.
  • Security policies (such as MFA or password rules) are managed centrally.

This approach helps organizations maintain better security while simplifying the login process for users.

✅ Benefits of Using IDP Login

  • Centralized access management — User access is controlled through the company’s identity provider.
  • Improved security — Organizations can enforce MFA, password policies, and monitoring.
  • Faster login experience — Users log in with the credentials they already use at work.
  • Simplified user management — IT teams can manage access from a single system.

1️⃣ Enter Your Email Address

To start the login process:

  • Open the platform login page.
  • Enter your work email address.
  • Click Continue.

The system checks whether your organization has configured one or more Identity Providers for authentication.

2️⃣ Choose Your Sign-In Method

If multiple authentication options are available for your email address, the system will display a selection screen.

You will see a message similar to:

"We found multiple sign-in options for this email address. Choose one to continue." :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

You can then select your organization's authentication method by clicking:

Continue with [Identity Provider name]

Examples may include:

  • Continue with Microsoft Azure
  • Continue with Okta
  • Continue with Corporate SSO

3️⃣ Authenticate with Your Identity Provider

After selecting your Identity Provider:

  • You will be redirected to your company’s authentication page.
  • Enter your corporate credentials.
  • Complete any additional verification steps (for example multi-factor authentication).

Once authentication is successful, you will automatically be redirected back to the platform.

⚡ Usage Tips

  • Always use your corporate email address when signing in.
  • If your company uses SSO, you typically do not need to remember a separate password for the platform.
  • If multiple login methods appear, select the one provided by your organization's IT team.

❓ Troubleshooting

I don’t see my company login option

  • Verify that you entered your correct corporate email address.
  • Contact your administrator to confirm that SSO is enabled for your organization.

I cannot authenticate through my Identity Provider

  • Check your corporate credentials.
  • Ensure you complete any required multi-factor authentication.
  • If the issue persists, contact your company’s IT support team.

✋ Limitations

  • SSO login is only available if your organization has configured an Identity Provider.
  • Authentication settings are managed by your organization’s IT administrators.
  • Access depends on the policies configured in your company’s identity provider.
