You can now display hierarchical list custom fields directly in your Matter list and in exports. This gives you a clearer, more structured view of your data and allows you to filter and analyse matters more precisely. ✅
⭐ What’s New?
If you use hierarchical reference lists (for example: Region → Country → City), each level can now be displayed as a separate column in the Matter list.
This applies to:
- The Matter list (grid view)
- Grid filters
- Excel exports
This improvement helps you:
- Have a clearer vision of your matter portfolio
- Filter on specific levels (e.g., Country only)
- Export structured data for reporting
☝ How Hierarchical Fields Are Displayed
Each level of your hierarchical list appears as a separate column using the following naming format:
[Field Name] – [Level Name]
Example
Reference list structure:
World Cities
Region (Level 1) → Country (Level 2) → City (Level 3)
Custom field name:
Prejudice Location
The Matter list will display:
- Prejudice Location – Region
- Prejudice Location – Country
- Prejudice Location – City
Each column corresponds to one level of the hierarchy. ✨
✍ How to Add Hierarchical Columns to Your Matter List
- Go to the Matters module.
- Open your Matter list (grid view).
- Click on the column management option (or column selector).
- Search for your custom field name.
- Select the relevant hierarchical level columns (e.g., “Prejudice Location – Country”).
- Click Apply.
Your grid will now display each selected level as a separate column. ✅

⏬ How It Works in Exports
When exporting your Matter list to Excel:
- Each hierarchy level is exported as its own column
- Column names follow the same naming structure
- You can sort and filter per level directly in Excel
This ensures consistent reporting between the platform and your exported files. ✨
❗ Important Notes & Limitations
- It is acceptable for a hierarchical column to have the same name as another field.
- If a level is not filled in a matter, the column will appear empty.
- The structure depends on how your reference list is configured.
- Available in all supported browsers.
✈️ Usage Tips
- Use only the levels you really need in your grid to keep your view clean.
- Create custom saved views for different reporting needs (e.g., one view by Region, another by Country).
- Use exports for advanced pivot tables or external reporting.
